Combination of Flow With 3D Cell Culture Improves Metabolic Competency in Multiple Cell Types

23 Sept 2012

Cell culture typically involves growing cells in 2D under static conditions. This is not always however sufficient to representative the in vivo environment and cells can exhibit different characteristics than they would in the host organism. The Quasi-Vivo culture system, from Kirkstall, has been developed to enable 3D cell culture under laminar flow. This scientific poster, presented at ELRIG Drug Discovery 2012, demonstrates the advantages of flow and 3D culture for various cell types. The Quasi-Vivo culture system enables cells to be subject to the same shear stress and pressure as they would be in vivo and allows cells to interact with one another, thus allowing cell signaling to be investigated.
