Li-Ion Battery Components Imaged at Low Accelerating Voltages with ZEISS Field Emission-SEMs

Rechargeable Li-ion batteries are the power source of choice for portable electronic devices and are becoming increasingly important in the automotive industry and for stationary storage applications. Characterization and analysis of these batteries requires a flexible suite of instrumentation that causes minimal damage to the battery. In this white paper, very low voltage imaging was used to investigate the usability of a scanning electron microscope (SEM) on battery components.
