Metabolic Characterization of Prostate Cancer Cell Lines

16 May 2013

The capacity of cancer cells to metabolize substrates other than glucose contributes to their plasticity and ability to adapt to an abnormal microenvironment. Measuring metabolic pathways and their interplay in cancer cells under conditions that mimic those in a starved tumor microenvironment is important for understanding the mechanisms of malignant growth and treatment resistance. In this study the effect of different growth conditions on the metabolism of different prostate cell lines in vitro was assessed and the link between metabolic features and tumor phenotype was explored.
