Molecular Imaging of Animal and Human Tissue Samples by LAESI-MS

18 Jan 2013

This application note discusses Laser Ablation Electrospray Ionization (LAESI) an ambient ionization technique that generates ions from tissue samples that are then introduced and detected by a mass spectrophotometer. Focusing specifically on the uses of the Protea LAESI® DP-1000 Direct Ionization System for mass spectrometry imaging of various samples including mouse body sections and skin tissues samples. This system provides the ability to map the location of biomolecules, such as lipids and small molecules in tissues without the need to add a matrix to a sample.
