Studying Developmental mTORopathies Using Postnatal Electroporation

At the Society of Neuroscience Annual Meeting 2012 in New Orleans SelectScience met up with Dr. Nathanial Hartman from the Department of Neurosurgery at Yale Medical School to find out about some of the latest techniques being used in neurosurgery research. Dr. Hartman is currently investigating how the Rapamycin (mTor) pathway controls activation and differentiation of neural stem cells in the neonatal SVZ. In this video he discusses how his work on the mammalian target of mTor, which is implicated in several diseases including Alzheimer’s Disease, Autism and Tuberous Sclerosis (TSC), has been greatly facilitated by the use of postnatal electroporation.
