The 860 KF Thermoprep is the new Metrohm instrument for thermal sample preparation in Karl Fischer titration. It can be combined with a wide range of titrators for volumetric and coulometric water determination.

Benefits of thermal sample preparation
The 860 KF Thermoprep heats the substance under investigation in a hermetically sealed vessel. The moisture liberated from the sample is transferred via a carrier gas stream into the titration cell where it is determined. This means that the 860 KF Thermoprep is the ideal instrument for reliable analysis of 'difficult' samples, such as plastics or salts, which release their water very slowly or only at elevated temperatures and are therefore not suitable for direct KF titration. As the sample does not enter the titration cell, side reactions with the KF reagents used are excluded.

Simple operation, high occupational safety
Thanks to the clearly arranged menu navigation, all parameters can be set with just a few keys to suit individual requirements. The sophisticated design of the 860 KF Thermoprep prevents the needle from descending outside the septum. In most cases the oven method requires no toxic solvents, so no harmful solvent vapors can escape into the lab.

Precise results made easy
The 860 KF Thermoprep ensures identical analysis conditions for each sample. Vessels tightly sealed with a PTFE septum (headspace vials) guarantee a constant, unadulterated water content even after longer periods of storage. The heated transfer tubing prevents water vapour condensation and ensures that all the moisture arrives in the titration cell and is determined there.
