SelectScience® has announced the latest laboratory products to receive a prized Seal of Quality – including the first consumable to win a Platinum Seal of Quality.

Launched in July 2017, SelectScience Seals of Quality recognize the top-rated products that have consistently received the highest review ratings from scientists around the world and are designed to further assist scientists in making important purchasing decisions for their labs. Analysis has shown that products attract on average 70% more inquiries after receiving a Seal of Quality.

During a glitzy Scientists' Choice Awards ceremony at SLAS2019, BioStatus became only the third company ever to receive a coveted Platinum Seal of Quality for its DRAQ5, a far-red fluorescent DNA dye for live or fixed cell analysis.

The four levels of Seal of Quality: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum
What is a Seal of Quality? The Seals of Quality program recognizes products that have consistently received the highest review ratings and aims to help scientists choose the best for their laboratories. There are four levels: Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze.

Roy Edward, sales and marketing director at BioStatus, said: “BioStatus is extremely proud that a British invention is the first biotool/consumable product to be awarded a Platinum Seal of Quality. The significance of this is all the greater since it comes from independent customer opinion, moderated by SelectScience.”

He went on to explain more about the benefits of joining the SelectScience reviews program: “Delightfully, even a less favourable review resulted in a good outcome — change to a technical datasheet and, most importantly, the successful troubleshooting of the customer’s issue.”

Another manufacturer celebrating at the party was VistaLab Technologies, whose product marketing manager, Grace Soong, received two new Bronze Seals of Quality for its Ovation® ESC Electronic Single Channel Pipettes and its MLA Single Channel Pipettes.

Also attending the ceremony were Chris Grimley, Vice President of Marketing, Labcyte, and Dr. Barbara Sonnenberg, product manager, multi-mode detection, PerkinElmer, who were presented with trophies for Seals of Quality awarded in 2018 to the Echo® 500 Series Liquid Handlers (Silver) and the EnVision® Multilabel Plate Reader (Bronze) respectively.

There are four levels of Seal — Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze — which are assigned to around 0.1 % of products on the SelectScience website and are allocated in line with strict criteria based on the quantity of reviews a product has received and the average rating of those reviews.

“Our Seals of Quality program aims to help scientists across the world see at a glance the lab products most appreciated by their peers, so we are delighted at how well received it has been across the industry,” said SelectScience Editor, Dr. Lois Manton O’Byrne.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our reviewers for sharing their valuable opinions and also to congratulate the latest Seal of Quality winners, who have been recognized by the people who matter most — their customers.”
