Echo® 500 Series Liquid Handlers
The Echo® liquid handler revolutionizes liquid handling with acoustic energy. Sound waves eject precisely sized droplets from a source onto a microplate, slide or other surface suspended above the source. This product does not use tips, pin tools or nozzles—completely eliminating contact between the instrument and the liquid. Compound dose responses
This is an essential piece of equipment for drug discovery and it works exactly as it's intended. I achieve very reproducible dose responses.

Liquid handling
The Echo has been a real time saver. I have not only used it for liquid handling (compound screens with very small volumes) but also qPCRs which have proven to be very reliable and accurate meaning the replicates are very tight with strong correlation. The machine has been an absolute delight to use and the protocol set up is extremely user friendly.

Compound screening
Great system for low nanoliter dispense. Quite pricey.

Compound in DMSO dispensing
Industry standard for touchless dispensing. Adaptable, reproducible and does what it says on the tin.

Compound Management
System is pretty reliable; some minor issues that can usually be fixed quite easily, and some redundant non-blocking "errors"...

Small molecule compound and aqueous solution dispensing/titration; compound reformat/cherry-picks
Very robust and consistent machine for nL volume dispensing; used routinely for uHTS and HTS screening in biochemical and cell-based assays; relatively easy to use and QC reports are indispensable for tracking purposes; worth the high price tag for ease of mind and reliable results

chemical libraries screening
Very useful for delivering ready-to-use screening plate. Plates can be prepared in advance an frozen for a later use by our client. It result in more flexibility and better output for both parties.

Compound management and HTS
The inclusion of this instrument in our compound management and HTS workflow has led to a very high assay data quality and reproducible results. The technical support is very good (though expensive).

Compound dispensing
I achieve high quality reproducible results. The instruments get a lot of use and rarely give us trouble.

Protein crystallization
The ECHO555 enables the large scale setup of crystallization plates and provides the possibility of adding very small volumes of e.g. compounds or fragments to crystallization conditions in a high-throughput manner. By using our established protocol for the setup of crystallization plates via acoustic droplet ejection, we are now able to screen big libraries of compounds/ fragments with minimal work effort.

The Echo liquid handler provides powerful benefits:
- Tipless transfer, resulting in dramatic cost savings
- Improved information about sample integrity and improved transfer quality through measurement of DMSO hydration level
- Elimination of the need for calibration through Dynamic Fluid Analysis™ technology, a patented Labcyte process
- Elimination of cross-contamination, carryover or leachates through non-contact transfer
- Accurate, precise movement of nanoliter-scale quantities, enabling assay miniaturization and further reducing costs
- Better results through direct dilution of compounds, an improvement over serial dilution methods
- Greatly simplified assay development and dilution processes through the flexibility to transfer any volume of liquid from any well to any other well
