cobas® IT middleware, a new user-friendly, software application enables pathology departments to link multiple laboratory equipment systems and software, from one or more sites, with their IT infrastructure giving them a fully automated workflow management and reporting solution. With sites already operational in Europe in late 2012, additional sites are now going live across the UK.

By working as the laboratory’s single process management platform, cobas IT middleware handles a laboratory’s sample workflow from pre-analytical to post-analytical phases, across multiple sites. Now it is possible to map and to manage multiple laboratories from a single access point, while ensuring streamlined running of sample routines both locally and remotely.

cobas IT middleware is easy and intuitive to use. Honoured by Microsoft Switzerland with the Technology Innovation Award, the graphical user interface is truly cutting edge. This, along with the real-time overview summary screen really demonstrates that Roche has an understanding of laboratory needs. This new IT software will assist managers in improving the workflow of the modern day laboratory, ensuring productivity and quality are maximised.

“As leader in the in vitro diagnostics market, Roche constantly looks forward”, says Peter Jones, Marketing Managing Roche UK. “Our solutions support both quality and testing efficiency for the pathology laboratory and IT is a key building block in our model. We know that with both the increasing complexity of pathology networks and the pressures faced in terms of productivity, efficiency and competitiveness, more capability is needed from IT systems in terms of day to day operations, management and reporting. As with all our products and services, we have developed cobas IT middleware with the assistance, input and support of customers. This latest addition to our portfolio demonstrates our continuing commitment to providing Pathology Services with total solutions that encompass equipment , IT and managed service contracts, enabling them to deliver pathology solutions that are fit for the demands of today, and in the future.”
