Strengthen your CPD with educational clinical webinars
SelectScience clinical webinars can be added to HCPC and IBMS portfolios as evidence of CPD
27 May 2024The UK's Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) require that members must record 24 educational activities across a two-year period which spans at least three categories. To meet HCPC and Science Council CPD standards, and for their own learning and development, state-registered biomedical scientists should write reflective practice for all continued professional development activities.
SelectScience® clinical webinars can be added to HCPC and IBMS portfolios as evidence of CPD. For each webinar, attendees can download a certificate of attendance to add to their portfolios. Each webinar has a list of key learning objectives that can be used to help with reflective practice.
Note, for webinar attendees in the USA, some SelectScience clinical webinars are also ACCENT® and P.A.C.E® accredited. You will see the accreditation certificates listed on the webinar registration page for your convenience.

HEMATOLOGY
In this webinar, Dr. Wendy Erber, Professor at UWA Medical School and Dr. Amy Meitus, Chief Product Officer at Scopio Labs discuss the ideal approach for assessing blood smears and combining the strengths of both digitization and full-field morphology. Watch this webinar to understand the clinical context surrounding a blood sample, and the clues and insights that make a difference in reaching an accurate diagnosis. Our experts will give a review of exemplar cases and will offer a new perspective on why contextual awareness remains the cornerstone of morphological hematology.
MULTIDISCIPLINARY
Enhancing Efficiency in Laboratory Medicine - A Focus on Quality Control Procedures on SelectScience
In this webinar, Oswald Sonntag, an independent consultant, will explain how to take a comprehensive approach to QC processes that integrates the principles of efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. Watch the webinar to understand the importance of integrating efficient QC practices, learn more about the use of modern analytical systems that support the transition towards more sustainable lab practices, and discover how by focusing on resource optimization and minimizing waste, you can deliver higher-quality services while advancing your commitment to patient safety.
CORE LABORATORY/POINT-OF-CARE
Overcoming pre-analytical issues in blood gas testing on SelectScience
Blood gas testing can be easily impacted by pre-analytic factors – including sample collection, environmental exposure, and proper sample mixing. In this webinar, Patricia DeJuilio, Director Respiratory and Diagnostic Services, Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital, will review how pre-analytic errors can be recognized and mitigated to avoid the age-old ‘garbage in, garbage out’ scenario – minimizing recollection and retesting while maximizing point-of-care (POC) blood gas testing efficiency.

Internalizing tuberculosis testing with LIAISON QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus on SelectScience
March 25, 2024 – Internalizing tuberculosis testing with LIAISON QuantiFERON®;-TB Gold Plus
Have you considered bringing your tuberculosis (TB) testing in-house?
In this webinar, Ruel Del Rosario, Director of Laboratory Services at the Eisenhower Medical Center (CA), will demonstrate the benefits of internalization of TB testing. He will describe the Eisenhower’s transition from send-out TB testing to fully automated in-house testing. He will also detail the process and timeline of bringing LIAISON QuantiFERON®-TB Gold Plus testing online.
IMMUNOLOGY
Soluble interleukin-2 receptor in immune-mediated diseases on SelectScience
March 28, 2024 – Soluble interleukin-2 receptor in immune-mediated diseases
In this webinar, Willem A. Dik, Ph.D., Laboratory specialist Medical Immunology, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Erasmus Medical Center, explores the clinical significance of soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R) in immunological diseases. The IL-2/IL-2R axis is a major pathway in immune functioning. Upon T-cell activation, sIL-2R is secreted, and increased sIL-2R levels occur in various diseases. Despite incomplete understanding of its biological role, sIL-2R was linked in studies to the presence and disease activity of immune-mediated diseases like hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis and sarcoidosis, as well as other (immune-mediated) diseases.
