SelectScience is delighted to announce the MiSeqDx System, by Illumina, as the winner of the Scientists’ Choice Award for Best New Clinical Laboratory Product of 2013. The award was presented to Tony Salerno, Director of Market Intelligence for Illumina, by Clinical Diagnostics Editor, Sonia Nicholas, at the American Association of Clinical Chemistry (AACC) Annual Meeting and Clinical Lab Expo 2014 in Chicago, Wednesday July 30th.

Nominated and voted for by the SelectScience Clinical Community, the MiSeqDx System, based on next-generation sequencing, is recognized to have significantly contributed towards clinical laboratory efforts in 2013.

Winner of the Best New Clinical Laboratory Product of 2013
The MiSeqDx instrument is the first and only FDA-cleared in vitro diagnostic (IVD) next-generation sequencing (NGS) system. Designed specifically for the clinical laboratory environment, the MiSeqDx instrument offers a small, approximately 4 square feet (0.37 square meters) footprint, an easy-to-follow workflow, and data output tailored to the needs of clinical labs. In addition, the integrated software enables sample tracking, user traceability, and results interpretation.

Runners-up
IVD-MS™ Analyzer, AB SCIEX
Unicel DxH 600 COULTER Cellular Analysis System, Beckman Coulter
MALDI Biotyper, Bruker Daltonics
3500 Dx Genetic Analyzer, Life Technologies
cobas 8100 Automated Workflow Series, Roche Diagnostics

Scientists around the world were invited to nominate and then vote for their favorite Clinical Laboratory product, launched or approved for clinical use in 2013, in a series of online surveys.

Sonia Nicholas, Clinical Diagnostics Editor, commented: “We are delighted to recognize the new products that have made a real difference to clinical laboratory work in 2013. Innovative products for the clinical laboratory enhance lab efficiency and productivity, and most importantly, they improve patient care. NGS sequencing technology has the potential to revolutionize the molecular laboratory, and I think that scientists around the world have recognised this in their choice of winner for this award.”

About The Scientists’ Choice Awards
SelectScience, an independent, expert-led scientific review resource for the worldwide scientific community, began the Scientists’ Choice Awards in 2007 to enable scientists to voice their opinions on the best laboratory products.
