Scientists from across the globe connected with world-class speakers and leading manufacturers online to showcase their research and share technology solutions in the field of biopharmaceuticals.

Following the success of last year's inaugural Biopharmaceutical Summit, the Virtual Biopharmaceutical Summit 2021 showcased hot topics spanning cell and gene therapy, biopharmaceutical characterization, nanomedicines, COVID-19, and more.

The free-to-attend SelectScience Virtual Summits offer the opportunity to bring together thousands of scientists from across the globe to explore major developments in the field. The platform featured renowned speakers, interactive booths, resource hubs from leading brands, and opportunities for scientists and manufacturers to connect. In addition, this year scientists were invited to take part in the event by submitting a poster or abstract of their latest biopharma research to be showcased in the new poster hall feature. Attendees were able to view academic posters submitted by our global scientific community, leave comments, and ask questions.

Summit speaker, Dr. Jared Auclair, from the Northeastern University, described why such events are important: “Continued communication and collaboration through events like these has never been more important than it is today as we continue to navigate the global COVID19 pandemic, especially in order to ensure high-quality medicines and vaccines reach patients.”

A total of 16 compelling presentations each drew in large crowds of live attendees, as did the new poster hall.

Just a few of the talks now available to watch on demand include:

  • Keynote: Exploring disulfide bonds and variants as it relates to product quality - Dr. Andrew Mahan, Janssen: Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson
  • Keynote: Challenges of Phase III clinical trial product manufacturing in cell and gene therapy - Prof. Gerhard Bauer, University of California Davis
  • Biopharmaceuticals – ensuring the quality of your medications - Dr. Jared R. Auclair, Northeastern University
  • Flexible nanoscale options for IP drug delivery: Targeting high-grade serous ovarian cancer - Dr. Lewis Francis, Swansea University
  • Quantitation of particle profiles in biologics and cell therapies - Christine Probst, KBI Biopharma, Inc.
  • Optimizing protein expression: Glycosylation, titer and development - Bjørn Gunnar Voldborg, Technical University of Denmark
  • Protein LC-MS evolved: Characterization tools for new assays in bioanalysis - Dr. John Kellie, GSK

The Virtual Summit also featured live Q&A sessions, a product launch area, and 1-on-1 chat facilities to prompt and enable collaboration. Summit speaker, Christine Probst, from KBI Biopharma, Inc., said: "This conference is an excellent forum to learn about the latest research and network with other scientists".

A number of leading manufacturers showcased their latest technologies available in the field, including Horizon, Sartorius, Agilent, Tecan, Metrohm, PharmaFluidics, Luminex, and PerkinElmer. Attendees were also able to collect a virtual swag bag of useful resources completely free of charge these are also available on demand in the event hall, for a limited time only. Featured highlights from the summit include:
