Analyzing trace elements in water samples.
I have been using the instrument for four and half years. I am mainly analyzing the trace elements in river and groundwater samples. 797 VA Computrace is a effective analytical instrument which gives results in Nano gram per liter, and is equivalent to the ICP-MS instrument. At the beginning, I found little difficult in understanding the processes and handing the instrument because this instrument deals with electrochemistry. Later I found it very user friendly and convenient for measuring the trace elements in ppb level and to study the speciation of the few elements. I recommend young students to learn this instrument because in spite of geochemistry research student I have learnt most of the chemistry, electronic and analytical part from VA Computrace. One have to be thorough with the Computrace instrument then its really fun to play with the instrument. Moreover the technical team, I personally appreciate Mr. Kasi Viswanathan for his immense support whenever I stuck with the instrument. Whenever I am calling him, he is always ready to assist me to rectify the problem . Finally, compared to any other high-end instrument its user friendly, cost effective and give precise and accurate measurements.

Enviromental analysis
Bought in 2005 I'm very happy of this system for trace analysis in water. Great instrument for ppb analisys in water samples . not fast compared to ICP system but MUCH MUCH MORE economic fopr analysis. Great reproducibility ( more then 15 years interlab check )

Brightener and suppressor analysis in copper electroplating solutions
For our application, the product is good at it's job. Whilst our current software is not the most up-to-date issue, it is still easy to operate, although understanding the reasons or procedures behind why certain settings have to be "like that" does take a little time to comprehend. Overall, the machine is very good, with any problems mostly to do with the material(s) that we are trying to analyse. Whilst the equipment is rather pricey, it is of excellent quality, with any failures due to age-related wear-and-tear, rather than faults with the apparatus. The documentation provided by Metrohm is easy to follow, and logical in its approach.

Water analysis for trace metals and juice analysis for Vitamin C in student analytic lab
The VA 797 Computrace serves to introduce the analytical chemistry methods of polarography and voltammetry to 4th semester chemistry students. The students analyze a tap water sample for the concentration of zinc, copper, lead and cadmium ions and a juice sample for the concentration of vitamin C. In the summer semester about 50 students work with the instrument over 5-6 weeks, in the winter semester another ~50 students use the instrument over 5-6 weeks. The students are given a handout with instructions how to use the instrument. The instrument has been in service now for about 8 years. So far, we've had no major damage done to the instrument and no major failure. The mercury drop electrode is, of course, regularly serviced by a staff technician. We obtain very reliable data from the instrument as verified by the large number of experiments done on easily comparable samples. The VA 797 Computrace is easy to operate and robust as demonstrated with the lab course. We had no problems giving the instrument into the hands of students. Once or twice in the 8 years of service we had to contact Metrohm service which responded fast and we were able to solve the problem without a visit. Outside of the time of the lab course the instrument is available for metal analysis in aqueous solutions.

Thiourea in copper electrolyte solution
When replacing the outdated equipment for thiourea analysis, the best option was the VA 797. This instrument was accurate and flexible enough for our processes. We use it on a daily basis for accurate results in the ppm range. The only issues we have is plugging of the capillary tube. But, this has to do with our solutions we run on the instrument. We have had a few service calls and Metrohm took care of the problem in a timely manor. Parts and supplies are easily available.

Impurities.
This is a great product and is easy to use. It is easy to clean and the finish on the instrument resists corrosion. All parts are easy to exchange in the unit. The software is very user friendly for all technicians. Metrohm customer support has been great and has knowledgeable people to troubleshoot with when called on. The price of the instrument is fair and the instrument seems to be hardy for the lab environment.

The versatile instrument for voltammetry
797 VA Computrace is a modern voltammetric work station connected to the PC via a USB port. The complementary PC software controls the determination, records and evaluates the measured data. Thanks to the sophisticated program design the operation is unbeatably simple. All the methods that are described in the Metrohm Application Bulletins and Metrohm Application Notes are already preinstalled. The integrated new designed potentiostat with galvanostat guarantees highest precision with reduced noise. The well-proven Multi Mode Electrode (MME) as well as rotating disk electrodes (RDE) from different materials are available as working electrodes, of course.
