In my experience, the LECO family of nitrogen analysers is the best fit for high-throughput, accurate and timely determination of protein content in grain seeds. The combustion type analysers offer a replacement or alternative for laboratories still using the traditional Kjeldahl method for nitrogen/protein determination. A research publication (JAOCS, Vol 71 No.10, October 1994) showed nitrogen analyses for canola seed, flaxseed, sunflower seed, mustard seed and soybeans on a LECO Nitrogen Analyzer gave significantly higher values than the laboratory's established Kjeldahl method. The standard error for results from the LECO analyser were comparable to the Kjeldahl method. With the multi-sample tray options relatively large number of samples can be processed in a semi-automatic fashion. The LECO combustion analyser method thus has the advantages of being rapid, accurate and precise along with a less environmental impact due to elimination of hazardous chemicals.

By incorporating state-of-the-art hardware and an on-board touch-screen software platform, the 928 Series allows you to easily handle the most demanding sample applications. The core capabilities and performance of previous generations of LECO macro combustion instruments have been maintained, while key improvements have been made in throughput, uptime, and reliability. Macro sample mass ability (up to 3 grams for Nitrogen/Protein model regardless of sample carbon content) with rapid cycle times and a resulting low cost-per-analysis make the 928 Series ideal for analysis of characteristically heterogeneous, difficult to prepare, or low analyte level samples.
