C difficile diagnostic testing
We have been using this product for about two years now I believe and have had excellent success and positive feedback from clinicians and product users. It did take some education and about two months of teaching people how to interpret a two-part result but after that, no issues at all. Alere/Abbott staff were a great help through the validation process and implementation.

Clostridium difficle toxin and antigen
It's a good kit but lots of false positive results since toxin starts to degrade at room temperature. We often times have to rely on our PCR test to confirm the results.

C. difficile screening/testing
The product is very easy to use. We also use Alere's Shiga Toxin assay and the steps are almost identical. In our population, we use a C. diff screening algorithm - GDH/Toxin screening and PCR follow up if only one test line is present. Only about 15% of our screens need a PCR follow up.

Direct fecal analysis
This product is being used as an initial screen for C. difficile disease. As a screen, it is quick, easy and inexpensive. This test if followed up by PCR when applicable.

Analyze directly from stool sample
This is a cost effective way for our providers to screen for C. diff. No one likes working with poop but it is quick and we get results faster than sending the test to a reference lab.

The C. DIFF QUIK CHEK COMPLETE® test (manufactured and developed by TechLab®, Inc.) is the only rapid cassette assay that simultaneously detects both glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) antigen and toxins A & B of C. difficile in fecal specimens.
The test detects C. difficile antigen, GDH, as a screen for the presence of C. difficile and confirms the presence of toxigenic C. difficile by detecting toxins A and B in fecal specimens from persons suspected of having C. difficile disease. This test is to be used as an aid in the diagnosis of C. difficile disease.
