Application Area:

Setting up genetic markers for populations in new plant species

Some of my postdoc colleagues and I needed to setup a high-throughput genotyping system for new species of plants we were working with in our research program. We settled in on GBS and set up a project with LGC to try it in one of our gene-mapping populations, and all we had to do was sample a small amount of tissue and they took care of the rest. We received high-quality data that we needed a bit of help with analysis to sort out - so we took their bioinformatic service which gave us an excellent number of high-quality SNP markers to work with. The communication was strong throughout the project and the service was very thorough. We got our gene of interest mapped in a matter of days from the point we received the data.

Genotyping by sequencing (GBS), also known as Sequence-based genotyping (SBG), has become the method of choice for high throughput discovery of SNPs and simultaneous genotyping in multiple DNA samples. It combines restriction enzyme-mediated complexity reduction with the high-throughput sequencing capacity of Illumina platforms to score random markers across an entire genome

LGC, Biosearch Technologies sample preparation and sequencing experts provide unrivalled support and assist in ensuring the optimal protocol is selected for your application. With expertise in techniques ranging from normalised GBS (nGBS), double digest RadSeq (ddRAD) and other GBS or targeted sequencing based approaches.

Biosearch Technologies has secured a license for the commercial offering and use of GBS (sometimes known as SBG) technology across all species and geographies from KeyGene.
