The Global DNA Methylation – LINE-1 Kit uses a unique hybridization approach to quantify global 5-mC levels that offers better specificity & reproducibility than methods utilizing non-specific passive adsorption.
The assay is uniquely designed to quantitate methylation in Long Interspersed Nucleotide Element 1 (LINE-1) repeats in human genomic DNA. Recent publications demonstrate that the methylation status of high copy number repeat elements such as LINE-1 can serve as a surrogate marker for global DNA methylation. Conventional methods HPLC and combined bisulfite restriction analysis (COBRA) and pyrosequencing of these elements all reveal a strong correlation with global 5-mC levels.
