pGLO™ Bacterial Transformation Kit
Genetic engineering is the process of manipulating the genetic material of an organism — often to include the DNA from a foreign organism. Using the classic pGLO Bacterial Transformation Kit, students transform bacteria by introducing a gene from the bioluminescent jellyfish Aequorea victoria. The kit include all material, disposables and reagents, for two–session laboratory activity, each one of less than 60 min. Provides sufficient materials for 32 student organized into groups of 4 per workstation. Students activities consist of a transformation of E coli bacteria by introducing a gene from the bioluminescent jellyfish Aequorea victoria. The same procedure has been used to create "designer proteins" which have led to the explosion of new health treatments. biotecnological applications, in theagricoltural field and environmental solutions. Very useful.

Molecular biology education
I've used the kit in order to add a pratical approach to my theoretical lessons about transformation and expression directed to undergraduate student. A gene from a bioluminescent jellyfish coding for the Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) makes the transformed bacterial colonies fluoresce a brilliant green when viewed with a hand-held long-wave ultraviolet light (such as a pocket geology lamp). Tthe manual associated with the kit is very useful, and it includes GFP encoding plasmid, nutrient broth/powder, petri dishes, UV pen light, and more, for 32 students.
