Routine PCR
The Piko Thermal Cycler has an easy to use and very intuitively designed user interface. It also has a fast heating and cooling rate. The PCR chamber can hold up to 24 Samples in easy to use sample strips. Also it is useful to be able to open every tube on its own; you don’t have to open the whole strip. Unfortunately the PCR machine we are using in our lab displays a single error sometimes. This is very annoying because the whole program stops and the PCR cannot continue. The Thermal Cycler was already repaired two times but only a few weeks after it was returned from the repair it displays the same error again ("Heat sink to cold"). But I am still using it despite the danger of loosing some samples because nevertheless the Piko is fast and easy to use. I would recommend this device to a colleague, but only for fast routine PCRs e.g. colony PCRs and bacteria.
