Great Instrument for regular Polymerase Chain Reaction
Polymerase Chain Reaction using bacterial genomic DNA
We are using this product for more than 8 years now. We went through just 1 servicing to date and it is working absolutely fine. We are using this product for research purposes and even for bachelor's and master's practical experiments at University. Regularly we do Normal PCR as well as gradient PCR. As this machine has a system to uses 3 temperatures in 3 gradients at a time. There are lots of pre-setup PCR protocols and even we can manage and set and save folder-wise our protocols. Even using Pen-drive we can transfer PCR Data from the machine directly.

AVOID - breaks often with repair policy that will SHUT DOWN your lab
Basic PCR reactions.
Have had a unit less than a year and we're not heavy users. We use it for basic PCR reactions probably 5 times per week. It has broken twice now and needed to be sent back for 'repairs'. The touch screen simply stops taking user input making it completely unusable. The "warranty service" is terrible and slow - taking weeks from the first call to getting your machine back. Each time we've asked if they can send a loaner unit and they said it would cost $1800 to rent one while it is being repaired?! Talking on the phone with the repair reps and he let slip that 'ya we see the simpliamp screens die all the time'. Clearly, ThermoFisher does not have confidence in their product and my confidence is now shaken in ThermoFisher in general.

Overall a good instrument for the cost
Perform RT PCR work easily
The product is extremely easy to use. We were able to deploy this thermal cycler in multiple labs quickly with needing only about five minutes to train technicians how to use the system. Programming new profiles into the system was incisive and easy to use.

Don't buy these machines
PCR
I bought three of these for my lab in 2016. At first, I thought they were fantastic. Easy to use, efficient and reliable. That was until all three of them started showing a need for verification tests at the same time. While I respect that machines have a lifespan, all three machines should not have required maintenance with a $3,800 kit all at the same time. They each have had a different history of use. This just seems like a ploy to get you to pay for maintenance. Right now I am regretting my decision to purchase these and wish I have forked out just a little more money for a machine where the user doesn't have to keep paying the company thousands of dollars to maintain the machine.

SimpliAmp Thermal Cycler is a very easy-to-use thermal cycler, very intuitive, and with great temperature control. The lid's temperature can be disabled or set below 50ºC, so I can perform enzimatic incubations (as digestion or ligation) with very accurate temperature control. It's my first option when doing WGA or WTA.
