The VITEK 2 is a fully automated system that performs bacterial identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing. The system also includes a highly advanced software system that then interprets the identified bacteria's antibiotic resistance patterns.

The instrument works very well and customer service is quick to respond and very helpful. The software (Vitek version 9.0) is easy to use, but it is not very well suited for a GxP environment. The software is not easy to administer/manage. Version 9 is supposed to be LDAP capable, but it is not. Three different user accounts are necessary to use the software. I give the software one star.

Microbiology ID and Sensitivity testing
The Vitek 2 compact is an amazing instrument. It's compact, so it has a small footprint. The Advanced Reporting Tool and enhanced features make it an excellent choice to make sure your results are reliable. This instrument is easy to use, has ID and Sensitivity panels that are the size of a credit card, and the smart tools to make sure you are reporting the correct result.

Identification and susceptibility of bacteria
Vitek 2 gives reproducible results. It is easy to use, maintenance can be performed in a relatively short amount of time. Vitek 2 is our lab's primary instrument for identification and susceptibility testing. The results are reliable and are available faster than our backup systems. Testing is set up on the morning shift and the results are available for release by our evening shift.

Medical microbiology
Quite integral to any laboratory doing microbiology work. It is almost completely automated and works wonderfully. It takes care of NH & anaerobic organisms as well vs. it's some of its competitors. Widely available in any market and hence, supply is not an issue. Additionally, post-sale support is excellent too. Scalable option.
