Bacterial sequencing from Mice DNA Samples
Zymo provided us with an excellent service that started once the DNA samples were received, as we obtained notifications and excellent customer service confirming the arrival of the samples (we are located in Mexico). Moreover, Zymo gave us clear instructions to avoid sample delaying at U.S. Customs and Borders. We received the results very fast (less than 3 weeks), and Zymo gave us a link with all the organized results, which significantly simplified the sample analysis. These results gave us reproducible data for scientific reports and manuscripts. Moreover, the price for the service was lower than other companies, which usually does not give you the analysis of your samples (particularly for those researchers whose expertise field is not primarily bioinformatics). Zymo also gave us the raw results for further analysis. We will definitely request this service in the future.

Yellowstone National Park soil analysis
I have now analyzed three years worth of Yellowstone soil data for Bacteria (16s) and Fungi (ITS) using Zymobiomics services. From first contact with support to delivery of data Zymo has been great to work with, Keith and Mikayla are awesome. The data is delivered in and easy to work with format to see general trends and the raw data is all there to follow up with additional statistical analysis. Identify toxicological effects on the gut microbiota
The service of mass sequencing the 16S gene, is a powerful tool to identify at a molecular level, the microbial communities that are in a microenvironment. This methodology has been used in our working group to evaluate the effects on the gut microbiota of fish exposed to chemical compounds. Similarly, we have sequenced bacteria that live from pristine regions to highly impacted areas. We are currently applying this tool to estimate the biodiversity of microorganisms in high conservation value forests. In all the services provided by Zymo Research, very good depth in sequencing has been achieved. The data generated is easy to analyze. It is important that they learn more about the scope of this methodology and its potential to be applied in different biological samples. My experience with Zymo Research has been positive, the quality of the results, the cost of the service and the kindness in the attention, have been fundamental pieces to successfully achieve the objectives of my projects.

The full service includes unbiased DNA extraction (optional), library preparation, post-library QC, sequencing using the Illumina MiSeq® platform (2x300bp), and bioinformatics analysis. All steps of the process, including library preparation, are performed with a microbial standard for quality control. Bioinformatics analysis is performed using an upgraded pipeline with an in-house curated database to resolve most microbes to the species level and provide increased coverage of organisms. The final report includes publication-ready compositional bar plots, taxonomy heat maps, alpha-diversity plots, beta-diversity plots, LEfSe biomarker discovery, and Taxa2SV decomposer analysis.
