Sars-Cov-2 RT-PCR Testing
Our Abbott Alinity-m hasn't been very reliable from the start. Techs were only given three days of training; the third morning the trainer showed up two hours late and left early. Our instrument has gone down once a day since we went live two weeks ago. Tech support tells us "I'm sorry, we do not know much about this instrument yet" and places us on standby while trying to find an engineer to call us. It can take hours to hear back from someone. Engineers are apparently few and far between, meaning they may not have anyone readily available to visit your lab to get the machine up and running again if it goes down. One representative from Abbott told us today that we may just have a bad instrument that needs replacing. This means repeat validations and a ton of wasted time for lab employees, who are already overwhelmed by the current workload. I sure hope things turn around soon.
