Enhanced ELSD Sensitivity of Volatile Compounds via Nebulization Gas Substitution

5 Sept 2016

This poster describes an improved technique for reaction monitoring in synthetic chemistry, as well as drug discovery and natural product research. Typical ELSDs can easily detect non-volatile compounds; however, semi-volatile compounds can be difficult to detect without fine tuning detection parameters. In order to detect semi-volatile compounds successfully, special considerations during the design phase of the detector are required. If the ELSD is designed correctly, substituting helium for nitrogen enables the detection of semi-volatile compounds, which improves sensitivity and lowers detection limits for semi-volatile moieties while still permitting evaporation of the column elution solvents.
