The IBMS (Institute of Biomedical Science) Congress held in Birmingham last week marked the biggest annual gathering of Biomedical Scientists in the UK. Delegates were treated to 3 days of informative and interesting lectures, and an exhibition hall full to bursting with the largest UK collection of suppliers and manufacturers to the clinical diagnostics market.

Some delegates were kept so busy with the lecture programme that they did not have time to see the whole exhibition. Other departments either could not afford to attend, or could not spare the staff from their over-stretched laboratories. Luckily, SelectScience attended the exhibition on behalf of our members, and we have compiled some highlights of the show for you.

  • Don Whitley Scientific launched the brand new Whitley A45 Anaerobic Workstation which allows microbiologists to work glove and sleeve free through its instant access porthole system.

  • Leica Microsystems showcased the new CEREBRO Sample Tracking System for safe and effective Histology specimen processing.

  • Horiba launched the brand new HemaCAM, the latest innovation in computer-assisted microscopy.

  • Thermo Fisher Scientific displayed its latest Pathology Solutions, including the Thermo Scientific STP 420ES Tissue Processor and the Thermo Scientific CryoStar NX70 cryostat.

SelectScience will be reporting from MEDICA in Dusseldorf in November, look out for our highlights from the show.
