These instruments are very robust, true workhorses. However, the manufacturer (Applied Bio / Thermo Fisher) makes it incredibly hard and expensive to maintain. They are trying to impose a monopoly on the (very simple) maintenance procedure needed.

RT-PCR analyzer
The 7500/7500 fast is a breeze to use, comes with manuals for different applications, and in a lab like ours it is perfect when you don't need an automated-high throughput instrument. It is also compatible with pre- made kits (like the DuPont BAX kits) for quick identification. We are a small lab and only use PCR for a few analyses, but it sure comes in handy when we need it. It has also proven to be useful, even without the DX version, for or Public Health Lab's COVID testing. The service is great and their people are quick, kind, and informative.
