This instrument is great for cell culture work – cell count and %viability determination with trypan blue works pretty well. I recommend comparing results with a method that you are used to as you bring the instrument on board – to gain confidence. Pay attention to the auto focus option, getting the focus correct is important. Also, watch the YouTube videos Denovix had put up for this instrument – these videos are very helpful.

It is also practical to have the option of creating your own protocols and adjusting the parameters to your individual needs. The FLXi allowed us to monitor EGFP expression and stability in real time, allowing us to identify limitations in our current system to which we are adjusting.
Measuring GFP expression in Saccharomyces cerevisiae (brewers yeast)
FLXi was very easy to use and adapt to our needs. Technical assistance was extremely friendly and helpful. For the software, it would be nice to have an autofill function that enters the name of prior samples to ensure that samples are labeled consistently.
