Chemistry and immunoassays
Training is arduous for this instrument and maintenance must be meticulously kept up. Cannot do anything on the instrument without it having to be on "standby" which sets you up for delays. FAS's will only train key users and they turn it over to the client to train each other. Service is spotty; some technicians know what they are doing others go down the list in their book and go by process of elimination. Technical Services hotline is hit and miss; sometimes you get someone who will walk you through a solution and other times they are just as stumped as you are. TS seems a bit hesitant to dispatch field services. Conducting your 6 month AMR, cal checks, and carryover will disrupt the entire workflow. Unless you use Roche QC, you will not get much help from their TS, FAS or FSE. QC is a constant daily problem. No training on how to use calibration trace to check for problems. Roche told our administration that we would only need one person to run two lines; that was overly exaggerated as it takes one person on the IM and another to dilute specimens, re-run, front load if necessary. Their middleware is actually third party and it is difficult to get support when you call Roche. The middleware training is a 3 day exercise with a book and examples with the trainers hardly having any experience themselves. Really wish we had stayed with our previous chemistry analyzer.

We recently acquired c8000 system with pre cm port analytical systems. Like them very much. Roche provides good port implementation review/visit to fine tune the system just for our needs. Good products and good service.

Chemistry
I work with a very long line with an ISE, 701, 502, and 2 602 modules. You can get a lot of work through this analyser however samples with 602 unit test on can hold up the other samples in the rack. You can't load reagents when it’s running and to stop and start again can take a long time. Although maintenance is very straight forward and quick the calibration and QC can take ages. The analysers are reliable and we don't have much downtime with them and it does get through the workload very quickly. The software is very simple to use and self explanatory. I'm not really involved in cost or after sales service so I can’t really comment. Overall this is the best set up of analysers I have used in terms of least fuss and can be loaded up with lots of samples.
