Combustion Ion Chromatography – automated determination of halogens and sulfur in solid and liquid samples
Metrohm presents Combustion IC (CIC), a fully automated system for the simultaneous determination of halogens and sulfur in widely differing matrices. With CIC, unlike with alternative methods the concentrations of the different halogens can each be shown separately. Moreover, digestion by pyrolysis is superior to offline digestion methods with regard to sample throughput and precision and correctness of results. CIC is ideal…

We're using supp 4 column, the result is great. The area count of Phosphate was drifted easy (over 8%) in two months. It should relate to MSM.

PFAS
So far, the first 6 months of the instrument's life have been plagued with reproducibility and method-based issues. We have yet to successfully generate data that any of our user groups would be willing to include in publishable work. The limit of detection is far higher than what we had expected based on marketing information, and information from [eer institutions. The general upkeep is also far greater of a cots than had been predicted. The lifespan of the combustion reactions and the autosampling equipment is much shorter than we had anticipated and budgeted for. All of the shortcomings we see with this device/methodology are within the combustion aspect. The IC (930) itself is robust, reliable, and extremely trustworthy. It is the combustion aspect that is not yet proven to be good enough for our user groups.

Analyze the water of the waste treatment plant
Metrohm 881 Compact IC Pro is very simple to use: it was the first ion chromatograph I used and continue to use. In the plant where I work it is used for the determination of anions in waste water and in that of the thermal cycle. The results obtained in recent years are very accurate and repeatable, based on those found by external laboratories: this allows you to always have the parameters of both the water leaving the system and that used for the production of heat and electricity under control. I have not found any particular defects while the strong point of the tool and the program is their ease of use.

CIC is ideal for routine analysis in a variety of fields, as it neither prior knowledge about the sample matrix nor complicated method development are required. CIC is recommended for quality control of raw materials, intermediates and finished products, and is also suitable for straightforward monitoring of compliance with the relevant laws and standards in the environmental field (e.g. DIN EN 228, IEC 60502-1, RoHS, WEEE, ...). Thus, CIC enables determination of halogens and sulfur in all kinds of fuels, lubricants, additives and other petroleum products, as well as in polymers, flame retardants, textiles, special chemicals, catalysts and all kinds of waste.
The new CIC system consists of a Combustion Module from Analytik Jena and an absorption and IC part from Metrohm. Sample digestion is controlled automatically by a flame sensor. The flame sensor measures the light from the pyrolysis oven and controls the feed rate of the sample boat into the oven in proportion to the intensity of the light emitted during combustion. Thus, duration of the combustion is optimized so that combustion of the sample is always complete (soot prevention), while time consuming delays of throughput are avoided.
Thanks to the automated control of the sample digestion, method development for combustion is no longer needed; both different matrices and different sample quantities can be treated using the same, universal «method».
The complete system, including sample delivery, sample digestion and analysis, is controlled by MagIC Net™, the proven software for ion chromatography.
