This kit was purchased when I failed to get results with another manufacturer. This kit gave positive results where the other still failed. Even though the recipe is proprietary, as long as it works!

Easy to use, working well for several different yeast species.
Synthetic biology
We found that the kit could be used to efficiently transform different yeast specifies with both linearized DNA and episome plasmids. It was very easy to use and there was no need to make any other solutions. The protocol was very straightforward, too. The competent cells could be kept at -80oC, and even after several freeze-thaw cycles, they still worked well.

Make and transform competent yeast cells for CRISPR
The Zymo kit for making competent yeast cells saves me immense amounts of time and trouble, and it is part of my CRISPR transformation protocol that approaches 100% efficiency. With the traditional CaCl2 competent protocol, I have much lower transformation rates, and it is very time consuming. The Zymo competency kit doesn't even require any heat shock time! This is a fine product that does exactly what it advertises. It is quite reasonably priced too.

Yeast prepared with this kit can be transformed with both circular and linear DNAs. Also, the Frozen-EZ Yeast Transformation II Kit™ can be used with other fungi including C. albicans, S. pombe, and P. pastoris.
