The Geode first partitions the sample into 20,000-30,000 droplets using pressure control and then a PCR reaction occurs in each of the individual droplets.
The Prism3 scans the chambers containing the droplets using three different fluorescence channels and provides droplet crystal images with a measure of the detected target nucleic acids.
