This product has proven very effective and easy to use for extraction of West Nile Virus from mosquito pools as well as SARS CoV 2 from concentrated waste water. It has the added benefit of deactivating the virus so that you don't have to take as many precautions.

Detection of blood-borne pathogens
Several years ago, when I became a principal investigator, I did a comprehensive comparison among the silica-based DNA extraction kits available on the market. Zymo kits provided similar quantity and quality when compared to the top lab brand (Q), but at literally half of the price. Since then, I have not only switched all kits to Zymo products, but also had 6 other faculty members at the lab test Zymo kits and move to using Zymo products. From DNA to RNA to microbiome products, I appreciate the insights provided in their manuals as well as the tech support on the phone. In my honest opinion, Zymo provides great products at very affordable prices.

Quick-DNA/RNA Pathogen Miniprep kit is a spin-column based purification of pathogen (virus, bacteria, protozoa) DNA and RNA from a wide variety of vectors (mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, etc.) and tissue types (mammals, birds, etc.) collected, transported and stored in DNA/RNA Shield. The kit features a storage/lysis buffer system and can be combined with high density ZR BashingBead Lysis Tubes (optional) to facilitate complete homogenization of hard-to-lyse samples for efficient nucleic acid isolation. Small (>50 nt) and large (>200 kb) DNA and RNA are bound to Zymo-Spin IIC Columns, washed and then eluted. The isolated high-quality nucleic acids are suitable for all downstream applications such as Next-Gen sequencing, hybridization-based and RT/PCR detection.
