FTIR Spectroscopy
The specac golden gate ATR revolutionized FTIR. Ive been using this for the past 15 years and it's never let me down. I've never failed to get a spectrum from a sample-however small. It's really simple to use and maintain - wipe clean.

Analysis of samples from green chemistry lab.
The Golden Gate ATR has been used for a wide range of samples from chemicals and polymers to pieces of biomass. It has not let us down for any of these applications and has proven to be robust for a range of operators of differing abilities and also capable enough for more demanding samples.

ATR IR spectroscopy of solid and liquid samples
Golden Gate single-reflection ATR is a must-have part of the equipment in each laboratory that uses IR spectroscopy, for both routine or more advanced measurements. ATR element made of diamond allows measurement of very broad spectrum of samples. Chemically inert, extremely hard and robust diamond also enables very easy measurements and fast cleaning. Single-reflection geometry allows reproducible, accurate and precise quantitative spectroscopy even with samples that has extremely high absorption indices, such as water and aqueous solutions. I used this accessory for precise measurements of optical constants of a series of water-amide solutions, and I could say that it enabled their highly precise determination, and further derivation of molecular properties of these systems. I also very often use a Golden Gate with heating plate with highly accurate temperature control. This accessory gives very useful measurements of temperature-dependent processes in chemical systems. I could say that, for me, this makes Golden Gate one of the most important parts of instrumentation in my laboratory. Besides these advanced measurements, Golden Gate also allows extremely fast measurements of samples without any preparation. Altogether, this accessory enables the use of IR spectroscopy in a very broad field of applications. It is just a matter of imagination to apply it to different fields of science.

cell wall fibre analysis and metabolite quantification
I've had 2 Golden gates for over 10 years and they are still going strong. Simple design, good energy through the ATR (maybe 10%) and excellent spectra. I use them all the time.

Specac’s Golden Gate™ ATR Accessory is a high-performance single reflection monolithic diamond ATR product offer, featuring a Type IIIA diamond ATR element metal-bonded into a tungsten carbide mount to provide outstanding durability and exceptional chemical resistance. The robust design, strength, and inherent inertness of the Golden Gate™ diamond ATR element allows this ATR accessory to be used to achieve high-quality spectral data in the analysis of a broad range of materials including those that are abrasive, hard, reactive, or corrosive.
Little or no sample preparation is required when using the Golden Gate™ ATR – the only requirement is that the sample is in optical contact with the diamond element. The Golden Gate™ ATR is particularly appropriate for samples that may polymerize or set during analysis since they can be cleaned off with a knife or abrasive pad without damaging the ATR element. With a load capability up to 160 lbs (80 lbs standard) over the ATR element, good quality spectra can be achieved from the hardest rocks, powders, and pellets. Special anvils are available to hold polymer pellets, to seal in and run air/moisture sensitive samples, and to analyze coatings on wires.
Specac’s Standard Golden Gate™ ATR Accessory is compatible with a range of upgradeable sampling options for advanced ATR material analysis, including heated, cooled, reaction cell, or supercritical fluids top plate ATR sample stages. The demountable nature of the top plate is well suited for the preparation of toxic or harmful materials, as they can be prepared in a glove box, sealed, and then measured with a higher degree of operator protection than other infrared sampling methods.
