The kit is very easy to use and produces high quality RNA for use in RT-qPCR analysis. This kit has saved me so much time over traditional chloroform/ethanol extraction methods. The RNA is also more pure. The cost is very reasonable on a per-reaction basis. I had some questions about places in the protocol where you could pause and store samples in the freezer, and the technical assistance from zymo was quick and very helpful.

This product invention is exceptional
Gene expression in tissue samples
This kit surprised me. It doesn't need organic solvents so is safer and more practical than trizol based extractions. Despite this, it achieves a good RNA recovery from a variety of tissue samples including blood, through the use of proteinase K and I like very much the RNA Shield solution, as it functions as RNA later but is cheaper. Even though is your tissue is very hard, and rich in collagen or fats, you will need to add a prior mechanic homogenization or try with other products that use organic solvents like the direct-zol kits. Besides it is recommended to extend and duplicate the last centrifugation and prior incubation with buffer TE or RNAase free water in the recovery of RNA, the final step.

The Quick-RNA™ MiniPrep kits are innovative product designed for the easy, reliable, and rapid isolation of DNA-free RNA from a wide range of cell (up to 107) and tissue samples (up to 50 mg). The procedure combines a unique buffer system with Zymo-Spin column technology to yield high quality total RNA (including small RNAs 17-200 nt) in about 10 minutes.
The procedure is simple. Add the provided RNA Lysis Buffer to a sample, and then purify the RNA using the Zymo-Spin™ Columns. The result is highly-concentrated, DNA-free RNA that is suitable for RT-PCR, hybridization, sequencing etc. In addition, the kit can be used for the enrichment of small and large RNAs into separate fractions.
